What are competition stages? How can I add stages to my competition?
Competition may have more than one competition stage. For instance in the World Cup, first
a group stage, then, a knockout stage. Since competition rules may evolve from one season to another, in YouFoot you enter stage for every new season. However adding stage is very simple.
On a competition page (make sure you are in the correct season and in the Results & Fixtures tab), click Add a stage.
Select if you want to add a qualification stage or a regular competition stage. Then choose among four types:
- Group stages: also known as pools in which all teams play each other once or more. The teams that progress to the next rounds are based on the points earned in these matches. You can adjust the number of point for a win, a draw and a lost (by default 3, 1, and 0). You can also add secondary sorting options to separate teams tied in points such as:
- Goal difference
- Goal for
- Goal against
- Goal difference in the tied team's versus matches
- Championship: also known as league, is a competition in which all teams plays each other once or more (typically twice). You can enter the number of rounds and the number of matches per round (number of teams / 2).
You can adjust the number of point for a win, a draw and a lost (by default 3, 1, and 0). You can also add secondary sorting options to separate teams tied in points such as:
- Goal difference
- Goal for
- Goal against
- Goal difference in the tied team's versus matches
- Knockout with brackets: single elimination table (sometimes with two-leg matches) where the winner advance to the next stage within a bracket schema.
YouFoot currently supports knockout with brackets for up to 16 teams.
- Knockout without brackets: is a type of elimination stage with one or more rounds. However, unlike in knockout with brackets, teams don't advance according to a bracket schema. This is helpful in various situation:
- in single round of playoffs
- when you have multiple rounds of knockout, with drawing lots in between each rounds that determines who will play who in the next round
- when have knockout elimination with more than 16 teams
Who can collaborate to the organization of a competition?
YouFoot is collaborative and lets anyone add matches and stages to a competition. However, to ensure that competition data is never hurt by vandals or by unintentional mistakes, we have a versioning system that lets you revert in just a few clicks to a previous version of the competition.
On a competition page, select in the right side toolbox Edit competition stages. After, again in the toolbox, select Revision history. When you select a revision in the list, you'll be able to preview it (just give it a few seconds). Once you've found the revision where the data is correct, simply revert to that version.
How do I add matches to a competition stage?
In competition stages, you'll see links or buttons to "Add a match". When you click this, you will get a popup where you can enter the home and away team and you'll get a list of matches between these teams to select from. You can also enter the YouFoot URL of a match (simply copy the URL of a match page and paste it).
How do I edit competition stages?
You can edit competition stages by clicking Edit competition stages in the toolbox when you are on a competition page.
This allows you to:
- Remove matches from a stage
- Rename the groups for Group stages or delete an entire group
- Add colors to indicate promotion and relegation in Championship tables and Groups tables
- Edit and customize a bracket schema (for instance you can have only 15 teams in the first round, etc...)
- Reorder stages (moving them above or below another stage). We recommend you organize stages with the last stage at the top
- Delete a stage
Currently you may not edit stage settings. So if you didn't create a stage with the correct settings, you must delete it and start over. We hope to add more editing options soon.
